Memphis, Tennessee is home to many musical attractions. Besides being the home of the Blues, it has many things to do, places to see, and shows to attend. The activities are great for the whole family as well. Graceland, Elvis Presley’s Mansion, is one of the top attractions around. Celebrating the holidays in style is about finding the right place to stay, finding the right events to take part in, and making sure you have enough time left to relax with your family. There are many must see places and shows to see, but you can only do so much in one visit. Planning ahead is the key to visiting the spots you’d like to see. Here are some top spots to visit and events to attend this winter:
The National Civil Rights Museum
Looking for something unique to visit? This informative museum is full of history, built around the old Lorraine Motel, where Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated. The interactive exhibits and multi-media displays chronicle the history of the civil rights struggle in America. While not a pleasant time, it’s fascinating to see America’s progression. Not for everyone, but history buffs will enjoy the visit.
Memphis Zoo
Two words: Zoo Lights. Not only is the Memphis Zoo a great place to visit, they decorate it for the holidays starting in mid-November each year. The zoo is also one among four in the country that has pandas. Also a major benefit. The zoo is over a century old, and houses over 3,500 different animals, from over 500 species. Its also in the top three for most visited zoos in America. Buy your tickets today to plan ahead for this awesome event.
Graceland
Graceland is by far the city’s most famous tourist attraction. It’s also one of the most visited. The Graceland Mansion area has transformed in recent years, with the addition of a new entertainment center nearby, as well as the Guest House at Graceland Hotel. The tour is like a trip through time, starting with the early days of Elvis’ career, and extending all the way through. Plus, an interactive tablet tour that weaves exclusive audio and video clips from the archives. Special exhibits also include a tour of the music legend’s airplanes, as well as the Elvis Presley Automobile Museum.
