A stay-cation night at The Guest House at Graceland – Review as featured on The New Tri-State Defender

With summertime coming up, many of us tend to start thinking about vacationing, stay-cationing and housing guests. Recently, I toured and stayed the night at one of Memphis’ newest destination points – The Guest House at Graceland. It was magnificent. My family and I had been there before for dinner at Delta’s Kitchen, which I prefer over the more casual fare at EP’s. It’s great for game watching. There are 11 screens! The stay was pleasant and the staff was delightful, especially Ms. Delores at the concierge desk. I was very well taken care of and not because they knew about the article. We carry on a lot about terrible customer service in this city, but The Guest House has no such problem. The space itself is very cool with – natch – some subtle and not so subtle Elvis influence throughout. The white staircase and royal blue drapes just past EP’s mirror one of the rooms in the mansion; the accent chairs in the lobby are reflective of the collar on Elvis’ cape; and the pattern on the ceiling and carpet in the lobby were inspired by the design on the back of his famous white cape. The devil [...]

Parlor of the Palm Springs Suite.JEFFREY JACOBS A new 450-room hotel in Memphis with suites overseen by Priscilla Presley taps the design trend of retro detailing “I took off my shoe and put it on the table. I said, ‘It needs to be that kind of red,’” says Priscilla Presley, describing how she explained to a group of designers the shade to be used in a suite at the Graceland Guest House modelled on Elvis’s bedroom. The 450-room hotel opened in October 2016 as part of a $137-million (U.S.) investment in the Whitehaven area – the biggest hospitality project Memphis has seen in over 90 years. Presley, an actor and businessperson, who was married to Elvis from 1967 to 1973, had a consulting role in the project and oversaw the design of 20 signature suites, which are considered the jewel in the four-star-hotel’s crown. Working alongside Memphis-based DreamCatcher Hotels, the development company managing the design and construction, and architecture and interiors firm HBG Design, Presley weighed in on everything from materials to palettes. “She would collaborate on the colours and the patterns and tell us what Elvis would have liked,” says Mark Weaver, HBG principal architect and lead [...]

The Guest House at Graceland: An Elvis tribute that — thank you, very much — isn’t tacky MEMPHIS — Like most Americans of a certain age, I grew up with Elvis Presley. Not the actual man from Tupelo, but the image of him as filtered through my big sisters’ obsession, the endless air play his hits received, and the surreal Las Vegas Elvis whose jumpsuits were as gaudy as the Strip itself. Not to mention the legion of Elvis “tribute” copycats who crooned “Heartbreak Hotel” for anyone willing to listen. Last week on a business trip to Memphis, I met an Elvis tribute of another kind after pulling up to the entrance to the impressive Guesthouse at Graceland. It’s adjacent to the Graceland mansion, which opened in 1982 and continues to attract throngs of tourists — a majority of them gray-haired, to be sure — from all points of the map. After opening last October with 430 rooms and 20 themed suites, some designed with help from Priscilla Presley, the Guest House is touted as the largest hotel to premiere in Memphis in more than 90 years. ( For those who can’t get enough of the Vegas Elvis, the second [...]

VIP Jackson Magazine – The Guest House At Graceland. Southern Hospitality, Modern Style.

By | 2017-06-29T01:14:14+00:00 February 20th, 2017|Hotel|

On a cold, rainy night in December I checked into The Guest House at Graceland just steps away from Graceland Mansion. Inspired by the same warm Southern hospitality that Elvis Presley always showed his guests, every aspect of this new hotel reflects Elvis’ personal style and the unique character of Graceland Mansion. From the moment I arrived until I departed the following day, I felt Elvis’ presence at The Guest House at Graceland. I met friends in the lobby where we stood beneath a round, mirrored ceiling based on Elvis’ bejeweled cape. The music of Elvis serenades arriving guests. Each floor at The Guest House at Graceland has photographs of Elvis artifacts outside the elevators with a number to let guests know what floor they are on. In the guest rooms a 50-inch flat screen television may be tuned to one of multiple Elvis channels. Guests may choose from his music of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s as well as movies and TV specials. You may also watch a guided tour of Graceland or dial in the Graceland cam aimed at the front door of the mansion. Read the Full PDF Magazine Feature >

Memphis is known for many-a-things, but if you ask a tourist, you'll get one of two buzz words: barbecue or Elvis. Though I am surely proud of both, I am most fascinated by the fanfare associated with Elvis Presley. His mansion is a magnet for millions each year; and even if I have only been twice my entire life, I now have a new reason to venture to Elvis Presley Boulevard... The Guest House at Graceland THE SERVICE + SPACE Upon pulling into the estate's driveway, a kind valet crew graciously led me and my overnight luggage into the lobby for check-in. Soft Elvis tunes hummed in the background without overwhelming the atmosphere, which reflected plush seating areas and stylish interior flourishes. The luxury fabrics of Elvis' famous wardrobes guided the lobby, restaurant and room details. It was a tasteful and very appreciated approach to the hotel design. The staycation was a family affair for my father's birthday, so we began the celebrations immediately. THE RESTAURANT After a cocktail at the Lobby Lounge blue suede bar, we took our seats at Delta's Kitchen, a fine dining experience located on the ground floor of the Guest House. We didn’t have to [...]

People Magazine: Priscilla Presley Opens the Guesthouse at Graceland: ‘Elvis Wouldn’t Have Wanted a Hotel Full of His Picture’

By | 2017-06-29T01:14:15+00:00 November 11th, 2016|Uncategorized|

The king is back, in spirit anyway. The Guesthouse at Graceland, a new 450-room hotel near Elvis’s famous Tennessee estate welcomes visitors starting Sunday. PEOPLE spoke with Priscilla Presley about the new property, which she oversaw and helped design. ELVIS PRESLEY ENTERPRISES “We never had a guesthouse [at Graceland],” Priscilla recalls of her former home. “Elvis didn’t really have any rooms for anyone to stay. The closest hotel was a Howard Johnson and, whenever we had friends over, that’s where they would stay.” Until this week, visitors to the historic home, which opened to the public in 1982, could expect similar accommodations to those Elvis himself offered, at the Heartbreak Hotel, a quirky property with a heart-shaped swimming pool and a divisive Yelp page. “It was the prototype for Holiday Inn,” Priscilla reveals. “That property was for sale and it’s adjacent to ours, so we bought it. There was always the intention to have a better hotel.” ELVIS PRESLEY ENTERPRISES Now, those making a pilgrimage to Graceland will be greeted by modern rooms, five dining options, a theatre for events and 20 suites that tastefully pay tribute to the music legend’s life and career. “Each suite has a feel of [...]

Food & Wine: Attention Elvis Fans: The Guest House at Graceland Is Taking Reservations

By | 2017-06-29T01:14:15+00:00 November 7th, 2016|Press Room, Uncategorized|

To Priscilla Presley, the Guest House at Graceland, which opened for business last weekend in Memphis just a few steps down the road from Graceland proper, is more than just a new hotel—it's the culmination of a decades-long dream and a tribute to Elvis's spirit and legacy. "I think that one of the biggest challenges was to create a design that really complemented Graceland," Presley says. "This would be a dream hotel for him. If he were here, if this hotel were here when he was alive, he'd probably spend most of his time over here. A built-in theater—that's the place he would go. And the bar with the pool table inside—it's practically a man-cave in there." Read More >

USA Today: Guest House at Graceland, draped in Elvis style, opens Sunday

MEMPHIS — The Guest House at Graceland doesn't scream Elvis, but there's no escaping his sense of style in the new Memphis resort hotel. From a lobby ceiling evoking his bejeweled cape to lightning bolt-motif lamps to a replica of Graceland's staircase, the 450-room resort is a contemporary translation of the late singer's aesthetic. "It's basically his personal style, and of course, it's inspired by Graceland," said Priscilla Presley, his former wife. "You don't have pictures of Elvis everywhere, but you do have his style: a little bit of his jumpsuit, his guitar, TCB, his belt. But it's not in your face." The letters TCB with lightning bolts (Taking Care of Business - In a flash) comprise Elvis' motto. The $92 million hotel marks its "soft opening" in private events Thursday before hosting a full house of VIPs this weekend. The hotel, lobby and restaurants will open to the public on Sunday afternoon. There was a whirlwind of activity Wednesday at 3600 Elvis Presley Boulevard as workers put finishing touches on the building and grounds and members of an exclusive fan club checked in. Crews from the Today show and Entertainment Tonight filmed segments that will air Thursday. Priscilla Presley, who helps manage [...]
