4 Things You’ll Definitely Want To Do At Graceland
Graceland will always be a place of esteem and mythic prestige – because visiting Graceland would equate to being as close as possible to The King himself. But it would be a mistake to think that the Graceland Mansion would be the only interesting activity when you get to Memphis. Here are four other things you will definitely want to do at Graceland when you come visit this end of the year or on New Year’s.
The Graceland Mansion
Of course, this would be the first stop when you visit Memphis for your very own dose of the Elvis Experience. The Graceland Mansion is the closest reflection that you can get of the musician in his heyday, and it was created with every bit of style and flair as The King himself.
The mansion is at the very heart of the Elvis experience, and if you want to know The Man himself, you need the iPad tour of the mansion to gain additional information about how the mansion was built, why, and more. In the complete tour of the mansion, you will be guided through the living room, the bedroom for Elvis’ mom and pop, and even the mythical Jungle Room. You will notice throughout the tour that Elvis had a more varied and eclectic of tastes, and it’s actually challenging to assign just one description his aesthetics.
Elvis Presley’s Memphis
Elvis Presley’s Memphis is all about historic value and tracing the golden career of the King of Rock and Roll. Elvis Presley’s Memphis is actually split into several distinct experiences: Elvis The Entertainer Career Museum, Presley Motors Automobile Museum, and the Elvis Discovery Exhibits.
The Elvis The Entertainer Career Museum contains an immersive array of different artifacts as well as photographs from Elvis’ life and times. You will also be able to see Elvis’ gold and platinum records, as well as his signature get-ups, like his jumpsuits.
The Presley Motors Automobile Museum features The King’s favorite cars, including the iconic 1956 Cadillac Eldorado. And finally, we have the Elvis Discovery Exhibits. The Elvis Discovery Exhibits contain a series of special venues like the Presley Cycles Exhibit and Hillbilly Rock: The Marty Stuart Collection that focuses on how Elvis influenced pop culture and music in a universal fashion.
Elvis’ Airplanes
Elvis’s Airplanes features Elvis’ planes and how he traveled in complete style and luxury. Elvis had a taste for the finer things in life, and proof of this is the fact that one of his planes was named Lisa Marie, and actually had its own gold plated seat belts. Elvis’ aesthetic was above and beyond what was considered stylish in his day, and this exhibit provides a truly intimate connection with the musician as he expressed his success through his possessions.
Graceland Exhibition Center
The Graceland Exhibition Center is the newest addition to the lineup, and is an 80,000 square foot facility that contains exploration showcases for visitors of all ages. The Journey to Space exhibit has opened last October and is currently available for viewing.
