In a world of mass-produced gadgets and trinkets, it’s refreshing to find unique souvenirs and gifts. The longtime home to the one-and-only Elvis Presley, Memphis is also a treasure trove of one-of-a-kind shops offering handcrafted items that will leave you swooning. So grab your money, honey, and let’s shake rattle and roll. Phillip Ashley Chocolates A post shared by The Guest House at Graceland (@guesthousegraceland) on Feb 12, 2017 at 7:04am PST Chocolate lovers worldwide crave the sweet satisfaction of designer chocolates created by Memphis’s own Phillip Ashley Rix. A native of nearby Bartlett, Tenn., Rix traded a career in corporate sales to earn his chops as a self-taught designer chocolatier. While some of his flavor profiles are surprising — pineapple ginger wasabi, Moscow Mule vodka ginger lime, gorgonzola dolce apricot — the hundred-plus varieties include some more traditional blends like Madagascar vanilla bean caramel fleur de sel and Key lime pie. Since opening his shop in the Cooper-Young neighborhood in 2013, Rix has built a worldwide following. He was named one of the Best Chocolatiers and Confectioners in America by TasteTV,   dubbed him the “Real Life Willy Wonka” and British Vogue listed Phillip Ashley Chocolates in its May 2017 [...]

From BBQ to Baked Goods, Memphis is Always in Good Taste

By | 2017-06-29T01:14:13+00:00 May 18th, 2017|Food & Beverage, Traveling|

With a culture based as much on food (Barbecue anyone?) as music (The King of Rock ’n’ Roll), Memphis is a feast for the senses. In fact, music and food are so intrinsically intertwined in Bluff City, visitors often build complete itineraries focused on experiencing the best of both. One key intersection: Some of Elvis Presley’s favorite dishes — peanut butter and banana sandwich, Tupelo Tater Casserole — are staples on the menus at The Guest House at Graceland. A post shared by The Guest House at Graceland (@guesthousegraceland) on Apr 23, 2017 at 10:02am PDT But that’s just scratching the surface when it comes to developing a taste for Memphis. Let’s take a stroll through some of the city’s most beloved dining traditions. When it comes to barbecue, Memphians have strong opinions. That’s rightfully so in a city that hosts one of the world’s premier barbecue cooking contests. Celebrating its 40th anniversary May 17–20, the World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest was originally a component of the Memphis in May International Festival, an initiative developed by the Memphis Area Chamber of Commerce to promote the city’s myriad interests. Four decades later, it’s a stand-alone $7 million non-profit, community-based organization with [...]

The Guest House at Graceland is Fido-Friendly

By | 2017-06-29T01:14:14+00:00 April 18th, 2017|Uncategorized|

A tilt of the head, a sidelong glance, a forlorn gaze; if you’re a pet parent, you know the look that signals the moment your furry friend figures out there’s a trip in the works and he is not going along for the ride. In fact, some of our pets have so successfully wrapped us around their paws that we choose to take shorter trips or fewer vacations just to mitigate the impact of that heart-wrenching moment. The American Pet Products Association’s 2017–2018 National Pet Owners Survey says 68 percent of U.S. households (about 84.6 million residences) are home to at least one pet, including 89.7 million dogs. Keep that in mind and consider this: A recent TripAdvisor survey of 1,100 pet-owning travelers revealed 35 percent of those surveyed take shorter vacations and 25 percent take fewer vacations rather than leave their pets behind when they travel. That’s a whole lot of people choosing staycations over vacations. On the other hand, 53 percent of survey respondents bring their pets along when they travel and 52 percent actively seek out pet-friendly lodging — including The Guest House at Graceland. Opened to rave reviews in October 2016, the AAA Four Diamond-rated, 450-room [...]

Memphis Meetings Connect at The Guest House

By | 2017-06-29T01:14:14+00:00 March 20th, 2017|Events|

No longer satisfied with all-in-one conference venues, today’s meetings planners are hot for hotels and resorts that offer a sense of place. That’s good news for Memphis where revitalization and development are breathing new life into the urban landscape. From historic neighborhoods in the center of the city to once sleepy communities on the outskirts of town, Memphis is on the move. “In this day and age, it’s a destination that can really integrate all of the meetings and events facilities with the lifestyle aspect of the destination,” said Greg Oates, senior editor, Skift, when asked to describe what makes a good meeting destination. Speaking of lifestyle and sense of place, it’s almost impossible to think of Memphis without conjuring images of Elvis Presley. The King of Rock ’n’ Roll and the Birthplace of Rock ’n’ Roll go together like, well, peanut butter and bananas. Opened in October 2016, The Guest House at Graceland, located adjacent to Graceland, combines the services and amenities of a AAA Four-Diamond-rated hotel with just the right touch of Elvis. Priscilla Presley, The King’s long-time love, was involved throughout planning and construction to ensure the 450-room resort would reflect Elvis’ personal style. In fact, Presley had hands-on influence in [...]

Thanksgiving: Counting Our Blessings at The Guest House at Graceland

By | 2017-06-29T01:14:15+00:00 November 22nd, 2016|Food & Beverage, Hotel, News|

More than any other holiday in the United States, Thanksgiving is a time to look back over the previous 12 months, to acknowledge where we were a year ago and to take stock of the blessings that have come into our lives. As we prepare to welcome our first Thanksgiving guests this week, The Guest House at Graceland has a bounty of blessings to acknowledge. Last year at this time, the hotel was a construction site. Twelve months later — and less than a month after our official opening — we proudly added the AAA Four Diamond Award rating to our list of achievements. One of the most sought after and recognized awards in the hospitality industry, AAA Diamond Awards are earned based on in-depth evaluations conducted on-site by unannounced professional inspectors. Hotels and resorts recognized with Four Diamonds meet rigorous standards for hospitality, service, amenities and attention to detail offered in a refined, stylishly upscale setting; less than 6 percent of the almost 28,000 AAA/CAA Approved and Diamond-Rated hotels inspected each year hold a Four Diamond rating. In addition to our AAA Four Diamond Award rating, we are grateful for: A warm welcome from the Memphis community Sold-out weekends since [...]
